This week we highlight our last remaining table-runners and wall-hangings, all of which are ON SALE!!
The 'Beit Jala' table-runner beautifully illustrates the traditional Tahriri-style couching-stitch embroidery that is unique to the Bethlehem area in Palestine. Our artisan, the Women's Child Care Society, has trained 15 women from the village of Tequa', south of Bethlehem, to produce pillows and table runners decorated with gold and silver cords twisted into vividly coloured threads. It can take some six months of training to become skilled in this special technique.
Also on sale are our two styles of embroidered wall-hangings, produced by the Melkite Pastoral Centre. This Centre provides paid embroidery work for women from villages around the Ramallah area. The villages suffer from high unemployment, poor infrastructure and a lack of social services, and the women's income from the embroidery work means that families can afford schooling for their children, medicine for the elderly, and daily needs such as food and clothing.
Behind every gift is an artisan in Palestine empowered by you. Shop now for that special gift-that-gives-twice at the Palestine Centre.
